Bujumbura, Burundi – The non-profit organization PARCEM organized a press conference today April 3, 2018, on the development of Burundi communes/counties. During the conference, Mr. Faustin NDIKUMANA, president of PARCEM, said that there are 5 main points to the sustainable development of a commune/county. He enumerated the 5 points as good governance, projects elaboration and management, development of the local private sector, the statistical policy at the level of the Commune (the number of doctors in a municipality, schooling rate etc.) and the point related to basic service such as (food, education etc.)

Mr. Faustin said he is not happy about the donation of 500,000,000 Burundian francs that is given each year to each Commune of Burundi for their development. He said that with that huge amount all the Communes should be developed in a very visible way.

He urged all competent authorities to follow the management of the 500,000,000 Burundian francs so that Communes could take advantage of it to develop properly.

He also wanted councilors of every Communal to hold a university degree as it is required by the law.  It is worth mentioning that the of 500,000,000 Burundian Francs have donated to Burundian Communes the two consecutive past years, and PARCEM asserted that there is no concrete development in Burundian Communes.
