Burundi, Bujumbura – During an oral question session and debate before members of the parliament today, H.E. Martin NIVYABANDI, Burundian Minister for Human Rights, Solidarity, and Gender, acknowledged imperfection in the fight against violations of human rights. He stated: “There are still imperfections regarding the respect for human rights in Burundi. ” He also added that the government cannot say that everything is well when some cases of human rights violation occur.
However, the minister reminded that despite these imperfections, Burundi is on the right path like other many countries regarding the respect for human rights. He emphasized that a clear improvement for the respect for human rights was recorded in 2017 compared to the year 2015 thanks to the improvement of the security sector.
It is worth mentioning that the United Nations Commission for Human Rights will present a report on human rights in Burundi this coming month of September.
